This time of year when the rains don’t come
And your throat is dry with fear
And your ancestors are tired of running
Hearts beating too fast in your skin
And baby I know you’re scared
And I am too
We’re in this fight together
They’re gonna have to get through me to get to you (x2)
Cuz I will stay with you
Til the water meets the sea I will stay with you
We’ll make the world
As it needs to be
Cuz they’re gonna have to get through me to get to you (x4)
Cuz I will stay with you
Til the water meets the sea I will stay with you
We’ll make the world
As it needs to be
i thank You God for most this amazing
day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky;and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes
(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun’s birthday;this is the birth
day of life and of love and wings:and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)
how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any—lifted from the no
of all nothing—human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?
(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)
A young man raised by Empire discovers he's actually from an oppressed people. Torn, he flees, become a shepherd far from power, privilege, adn pain.
In exile, he awakens to justice. He realizes: true peace requires confronting oppression directly. This awakening is a source called "I am Becoming."
Aided by this Source, he returns to confront the Empire, Demanding freedom for the enslaved. This moment shapes the eternal story of Passover.
Passover teaches us never to accept oppression as normal. True freedom demands sacrifice, swift action, and empathy for the oppressed. The story of Passoer doesn't conclude with conquest. It points toward global liberation and justice for all humanity. "Next Year in Jerusalem" isn
t about geography--it reminds us of our ancestor's dream of a messianic world, in which all people are liberated.
May we witness Empire fall away,
guiding us toward universal liberation for Jews, for Palestinians, for all people.
May the Source of All Liberation hear us, and make it so.
Baruch Atah Adonai, Eloheinu Meleh Ha'Olam Shomeah Na'akot
Blessed are you, Adonai, Sovereign of the Universe, who hears the cries of the suffering.
Tonight we gather in the glow of a full moon. Yet on other nights, the moon seems to disappear. May these ever-changing phases remind us that there is always newness and possibility ahead.
And may these candles remind us of our own power to kindle light in our world and in our lives.
